Calcium Silicate Bricks

Calcium Silicate BricksThe smart choice
Designed with the environment in mind, our calcium silicate brick is one the most affordable and energy-efficient building bricks available in WA.

Calcium silicate bricks are a mix of sand and lime. Using biogas from landfill to fuel the kiln, the bricks are high pressure-steamed for 12 hours to form calcium silicate.

Features:

  • Calcium Silicate Bricks RenderingInsulation
Our calcium silicate bricks have excellent insulation properties. This means they reduce heat and humidity in summer, and retain heat in winter. Independent testing also shows that these bricks reduce noise by at least 50%.
  • Colour
These bricks are great for water features, landscaping, retaining walls and fences, and can be rendered to achieve the desired finish. Thanks to their smooth white surface, they can even be left unplastered for projects such as sheds.
  • Strength and durability
Made to the highest standards, our bricks are non-toxic, free from efflorescence and have consistent size and surface. They’re manufactured at 10-18MPa, which means they’re extremely hard and can support heavy loads. Over time, carbon dioxide improves the strength of the bricks, making them last longer. They’re also highly resistant to fire.
  • Value for money
If you’re on a budget, this product is ideal for your project. Since 1983, more than 10,000 houses have been built in WA using our calcium silicate bricks. We can supply these bricks at very low prices, plus, you’ll save on the cost of sand and cement thanks to their multi-lock system

How to mix mortar for calcium silicate bricks

The ideal mortar mix for our calcium silicate bricks is 4:1:1 of brickies sand, cement and hydrated lime respectively. Keep in mind that the mix shouldn’t be stronger than the bricks – too much cement can cause vertical cracking. If you’re building near the coast, you should reduce the lime content in the mortar.

For DIY home improvement projects, combine nine shovels of sand with half a bag of cement/lime mix to lay 50 multi-lock bricks. Mix the dry ingredients first and then add enough water to achieve toothpaste-like consistency.

Tips for finishing calcium silicate brickwork

There are several finishing options for calcium silicate bricks, including rendering, bagging, jointing and painting.

Here are some tips for the two most popular finishes:

Calcium Silicate BricksRendering

  • Use the same ratio of sand, cement and lime as for laying bricks
  • Always dampen the wall before application
  • For a brighter finish, try cream-coloured cement

Bagging

  • Dampen the wall before application
  • Mix the mortar, making it wetter than normal
  • Apply the mortar with a sponge in a swirling action
